Profile:

  • Runmin Cong (IEEE/CCF/CSIG/CIE Senior Member, ACM/APSIPA IVM Member) is currently a Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at the School of Control Science and Engineering, Shandong University. He has been selected into the National High-Level Young Talents Program, the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers, the World’s Top 2% Scientists (Lifetime Impact), the Top 0.05% Highly Ranked Scholars, etc. He received his Ph.D. degree in Information and Communication Engineering from Tianjin University in June 2019. He was formerly an Associate Professor at Beijing Jiaotong University, and conducted research at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and City University of Hong Kong. His research interests include artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, machine learning, low-altitude intelligence, embodied perception, and AI security. He has led and participated in numerous research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (General and Youth Programs), the National Key R&D Program of China, the Beijing Nova Program, etc. He has published more than 150 papers in top-tier international journals and conferences such as TPAMI, IJCV, TIP, TCyb, TNNLS, NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ICCV, ICLR, AAAI, IJCAI, ECCV, and ACM MM, including 136 CCF-A/IEEE/ACM Transactions papers, 2 ESI Hot Papers (top 0.1%), 20 ESI Highly Cited Papers (top 1%). He holds 1 US invention patent and 50 Chinese invention patents. He serves as an Associate Editor/Editorial Board Member for several SCI journals including IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (TNNLS), Pattern Recognition (PR), Neurocomputing, IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering (JOE), CAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology. He has also served as Area Chair, Session Chair, PC Member, and Invited Speaker for many international conferences including NeurIPS, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICML, AAAI, ACM MM, ICME, and APSIPA ASC. His was a recipient of the IEEE SPS Best Paper Award, IEEE Chester W. Sall Memorial Award, the IEEE ICME Best Student Paper Runner-Up Award, Research.com Rising Stars Award, the ACM SIGWEB China Rising Star Award, the Challenge Champions in CVPR2025, ECCV2024, ICME2026, etc.

  • Enhanced Perception and Understanding in Open Environments:
    This direction explores content enhancement and intelligent understanding techniques in real-world open environments, including low-light enhancement, underwater image restoration, super-resolution reconstruction, saliency detection, multimodal segmentation, etc.
  • Advanced Machine Learning Theory and Methodology:
    This direction focuses on machine learning theories and practical applications, such as zero/few-shot learning, self/weakly-supervised learning, continual learning, contrastive learning, meta-learning, etc.
  • Intelligent Perception and Decision-Making for Low-Altitude Scenarios:
    This direction investigates solutions for UAV-based low-altitude scene understanding, path planning, multimodal navigation, and their applications in emergency rescue, smart cities, and other fields.
  • Security Protection and Evaluation of Intelligent Systems:
    This direction studies security protection and risk assessment technologies for intelligent systems, covering adversarial defense, robustness verification, and safety explainability, with a special focus on embodied AI security.
  • AI-Driven Interdisciplinary Research:
    This direction explores artificial intelligence-enabled interdisciplinary studies, such as AI for Archaeology, AI for Astronomy, AI for Industry, AI for Oceanography, AI for Education, etc.
